The Thompson-Nicola Conservation Collaborative (TNCC) is proud to release its 2023-2024 Annual Report, highlighting a year of environmental progress achieved through collaboration with conservation partners across the region. The report showcases key initiatives undertaken in partnership with local governments, Indigenous communities, and environmental organizations.

Stronger Together: Building Networks and Communication

TNCC prioritized fostering collaboration by engaging a diverse range of partners (47) through meetings, projects, and online platforms.

Empowering Partners, Building Capacity

This year, TNCC focused on building the capacity of partners and the organization itself to undertake essential conservation activities. A strong and diverse Steering Committee provided invaluable guidance.

Conservation Action Plan Launched

A major accomplishment of 2023 was the development and launch of the Conservation Action Plan for the Thompson Watershed (CAP). Developed with extensive input, the CAP serves as a roadmap for sustainable resource management and conservation across the region.

Connecting with the Land: Inspiring Youth

TNCC partnered with educators to develop a shareable curriculum based on the Secwépemcw seasonal wheel. This initiative, along with a field day, aimed to connect Skeetchestn and Simpcw youth to their culture and the land.

Stewardship Activities Enhance the Region

TNCC actively participated in stewardship activities such as controlling invasive species, participating in World Rivers Day clean-up efforts, and restoring native plants.

Laying the Groundwork for Future Conservation

The three-year “Conservation Planning for Climate Change” project continued, working to address data gaps by developing predictive models to identify critical ecosystems. This project, a collaboration with the Okanagan Collaborative Conservation Program and Indigenous communities, is laying the groundwork for future policy development.

Overall, the year saw a strong focus on collaboration, capacity building, and significant advancements in conservation planning.
