Focus Area

STEWARDsHIP

We increase the effectiveness and coordination of stewardship activities taking place on public and private lands.

Indigenous Peoples of the Thompson Watershed are the inherent stewards of the land and have deep connection to the lands and waters of their traditional territories. The TNCC seeks to learn from and grow our understanding through this lens. By promoting responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices, the TNCC and our partners facilitate, promote, collaborate, and invest in responsible stewardship activities to provide for and promote healthy and vibrant natural habitats and communities.

We identify conservation targets and threats, and advance work on high priority actions. We support initiatives to enhance climate resiliency in the region, including mitigation measures, adaptive management, and restoration and remediation work in climate impacted and disturbed areas.

We work with local governments to identify and address needs and gaps in applying conservation principles and practices to land use planning and stewardship. We engage with and provide resources to land holders, including private and industry, to improve conservation and stewardship of private lands.
