The Need for a Collaborative Conservation Partnership

Image

In 2020, recognizing the need to strengthen regional conservation efforts in the Thompson-Nicola, several conservation organizations began exploring the need for a collaborative conservation partnership. A Working Group, funded in part by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development and Environment and Climate Change Canada, conducted more than 80 interviews with over 60 diverse agencies, organizations, and Indigenous communities to explore options for collaboration among conservation-focused groups. These interviews indicated strong support for the development of the Thompson-Nicola Conservation Initiative (TNCI) – an independent, member-driven organization focused on increasing capacity for collaborative conservation efforts in the Thompson-Nicola.
