Gambles Pond Dries Out Due to Drought Conditions
Gambles Pond, a key wetland area in Kamloops, has dried out due to the major drought conditions this year. The pond is a basin that usually collects runoff and stormwater which creates a habitat for wetland species, but this year, 75 % of the pond is completely dried out.
Although Kamloops is currently at the Level 2 drought conditions, as of November 14, the city has only received 137 mm of precipitation which is well below the historic average. The City of Kamloops is looking into efforts to restore this wetland that may include diverting water to the area from other collection points.
